Hi, I¡¯m back from Suntec. Now humming along with Utada Hikaru¡¯s first love playing on my laptop. One of my favourites.
Well, I have been feeling quite high today. So far it has been my third driving lesson. My instructor for the day is another slightly plump Malay guy, bearing similarity to the previous one. He asked whether I remember who he is and I almost blurted ¡°Rahmad¡±. Phew, he replied faster than me. The trainee instructor sitting at the backseat on my first lesson, remember? Iman! I think he is a good friend of Rahmad. Not much thing to learn. Just more practice with cornering, shifting gears, braking and stopping at precise spots. I come to love driving. Love the speed. Love to be in control of a complex machine. More fun than horse riding. But I don¡¯t think this will last long as the lessons proceed. What I have learned:
1. When while depressing clutch pedal fully, slightly depress accelerator pedal. Then release clutch pedal to a point when the car starts moving. Off clutch pedal once the car move smoothly. (When Iman was guiding me to go out to the lanes, he wanted me to depress clutch pedal to a biting point while he handled handbrake. Once the handbrake was off, the car started to move)
2. When tackling bends at first gear, release accelerator pedal. Don¡¯t worry if the car is moving real slow. Just make sure the middle bonnet follows the centre white line.
3. When tackling bends at second gear, release accelerator pedal and apply brake slightly and smoothly. At second gear, the car will have more power and you can feel the centripetal force. It will be safer to go slow while turning. If possible, change to first gear before turning but never DURING turning.
4. When you hear a nosier engine, it¡¯s time to change it to second gear. Try not to look down at the gears.
5. Never grip the steering wheel too hard.
6. When meeting steep turn, always remember to turn back the steering wheel fast or else will end up on curb.
7. When about to stop while at first gear (very slow speed), clutch pedal then brake. On the other hand, when at second gear going at a higher speed, brake first then clutch pedal. This is to prevent freewheeling, which will cause the car to go faster instead.
I don¡¯t know how to spend this weekend before my fourth lesson resumes on Monday. Hope I¡¯m be performing as well as or even better than today¡¯s one. Oops! Forget to tell you that I did quite well at the training. Even my instructor said so and I appreciate him for encouraging me to do things that I¡¯m not confident at like changing gear within a very short distance before multiple bends when especially I have the habit to go to other lane while shifting gears. With not much engine stall, able to turn properly and braking smoothly, improved footwork coordination and calm reactions to surrounding cars. I really enjoy throughout the process and of course chatting with my instructor. It makes my day! I hate thinking that school days are coming soon. Yuck! I hope to plan my schedule in the way for my driving lessons to fit in. Next Monday, I think I will be learning how to check blindspot (Iman said is easy) and steering (Narrow course?).
Things to do: planning modules. Revising my theories, driving and music. Optimistically, I can pick up where I left off my piano lessons this August. I miss my teacher and my piano. One friend advises me against it for it will be a heck of time but these are what I like to do. I don¡¯t want to end up like last semester, completely lost interest in studying and grade drops tremendously. I don¡¯t even like coming to school because everyone will be talking academics. So stressful. Yah, I¡¯m those who prefer to skip lectures and read on my own when I want to. I have my own reason. I don¡¯t believe that it will maximise the number of stuffs I will learn if I attend all lectures unlike what my SOC friends thought so. Why must they disapprove of what I do?
Okay, on a lighter side, hope to go cycling this weekends if possible. ·ÊËÀÀ²!
